Failure Stories - Post 2.
During my MTech in structural Engineering, in third semester, we all were asked to do mandatory internships as per AICTE.
I went to a Structural Consultant in Bangalore directly in person. As I hated sending resume via email and just wait for their reply (as many Freshers like this way as it is less cumbersome then visiting companies in-person).
The Structural Consultant & head of the design consultancy allowed me to do Internship at his Consultancy.
I use to leave my room for internship morning 8:30 am and return by 8:30 pm. & It was a unpaid one (I wasn't provided any stipend) also it was my second internship. I already had my first 3 months full Internship done. Was doing this one just to utilize my remaining few time as well as I was sure of getting good exposure here too.
During My Internship at that Consultancy firm, many live Projects use to come. One Such project was a warehouse with steel structures and also a small RCC building attached to it.
Now as the case with most of Engineering or Even MTech graduates, Steel structures was something which was either not taught properly at colleges or the faculty handling the subject didn't had industry Experience with designing of such structures. I too didn't understood steel structures as I did RCC structures.
So during that steel structures project at Consultancy, as an intern, I tried my best to get involved in that live project and learn as much as possible.
During which I use to ask questions or my doubts to the Head of Consultancy. Most of the times, he use to reply to my queries as " you don't even know such basic thing's. How do you even ask such questions".?. That too in-front of everyone at the office.
Now here's what I want all the Freshers to understand. Such things will happen a lot during your initial days of career. Humiliations, taunts, bad talks, insults and all of that. DO NOT EVER TAKE THIS ON YOUR EGO. I see so many young Freshers who leave company just because they didn't like someone to yell at them. That too in-front of Everyone. Take it as your learning Curve.
As My Mentor use to say starting at least 2-3 years are one's Incubation Period. Just for that transition from college to solving real- life Problems. During this phase , one's only focus should be on learning and acquiring skills.
